The PILLOT Family

Contents

Records of the city of Besancon in France show that members of the Pillot Family were closely associated with the city in the 15th C. However, their later involvement with the Huguenot movement meant that they had to seek refuge near La Rochelle and one, Joshua Pilot, fled to Ireland from Poitou about 1685 (map). These web pages trace his descendants and their associated families.

The spelling of the name Pillot in early Irish records also appears as Pillote, Pilot, Pilow, Pielow, Pelow, Peilow and Pielou. However, there are families in Ireland and elsewhere with these name variations whose descent from Joshua Pilot has not been confirmed. They are included in these pages in a separate section pending further research.
